On 16th November, 2018 we arrived at Adoli, the small village in the heart of India where the Inauguration Ceremony took place the next day. The whole village awaited our arrival and as we got out of the car there was a fast beating drum sound echoing all around and people throwing flowers on us and in in front as we walked on the carpeted path. As I walked with the shower of flowers falling and the vibration of the drums I felt like Jesus entering Jerusalem. It was just an extraordinary atmosphere and experience. I maintained Gassho with my hands expressing my gratitude to their fantastic welcome. We walked slowly to the small shrine where I paid homage to the Buddha, then I blessed the people while chanting peace and The Triple Gem: Buddha, Dharma, Sangha.

The following day the Inauguration Ceremony took place in the massive marquee adorned with colourful decoration. On the front stage there was a huge banner saying ‘Buddha Maitreya’s PureLand Meditation Centre and Japanese Garden’, which was positioned behind where we were seated.

The Inauguration began with my Dharma chanting in Japanese and Sanskrit and prayer.

‘May Buddha Dharma Sangha bless this land to be spiritual heart of the world, for enlightenment of all people, for peace and happiness of the whole world and for a new civilisation on earth’

An endless flow of people came to pay their respect to me offering garlands and scarves whilst bowing down and touching their heads on the ground, a traditional Indian custom.

I gave a talk on the necessity of a higher form of teaching for the world, explaining that most of teaching and religion are outdated and not much use now. I also pointed out the difference between Sakyamani Buddha’s teaching and mine, what I teach is the direct approach to enlightenment that is required by people in the world today. At the end of my talk I told the audience that we would have a meditation session after the interval and it surprised me that no one left the marquee and all stayed for meditation. Although it was a large audience of between 700 to 800 all followed the guidance and practiced very well with great enthusiasm. There was an atmosphere of perfect stillness in the marquee which impressed and encouraged me to think that a higher self awareness or perhaps self realisation of the audience would be possible. Furthermore I had the feeling that spiritual evolution could start from the grassroots of Indian society.

Several local newspapers featured the event and I later heard villagers were talking about a new Buddha was amongst them.

A few days later I went to Budhgaya, the most holy place for all Buddhists, being the place where Buddha attained enlightenment. I had a TV interview which was televised on a nationwide network as well as worldwide through a major Indian TV channel.

It was an absolutely exceptional visit, I was totally overwhelmed by people’s response and enthusiasm. We hope that the Indian Pure Land will develop quickly and fulfil its purpose, I feel a new age on earth has started in the heart of India.

P.S. Pure Land India has started with great promise. For the development of the centre and Japanese Garden we require a great deal of funding. We would like to appeal to you for support and will be setting up a fundraising system in the near future. We would be extremely grateful for any support and contribution you can give to our project.

Love and Peace, Maitreya, 10.12.18
